Hunting the hunter

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

Went out this morning. And originally was going to set up on a creek bottom in hopes that some ducks would move through like they did a couple weeks ago. Well it was pretty quite and I didn’t see any ducks or geese moving. But around 7:15 a.m. I heard something running. It was pretty loud. About 30 yards out a small spike buck ran out and crossed the creek bottom. A minute later I heard it again. Another small maybe 4 point buck came out of the same draw and ran right where the other one did. They both stood on the other side of the creek looking back toward my side. They didn’t seem nervous or anything.

Then all of the sudden I heard the noise again. I was thinking man what a spot to be set up for deer hunting. Then I saw it. A coyote. I thought it was hunting the deer. It was looking straight in their direction. When suddenly a flash of white came flying over the hill. A rabit came by me at 2 feet. There where two yotes. The male came by just inside the sticks at 5 feet. I took him apart without even aiming at him. I turned and saw the female studdering around. She was deciding where the next county was. I shot her at 20 yards. I bet that rabit was pretty thankful.

What an awesome hunt.

Another great day in the woods.
